DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

Although tourism is the driving force of this region's development, clear evidence of traditional industrial activity remains.
Nevertheless, the industrial activities which, hitherto, formed the region's mainstay, are currently on the decline (household equipment, wood, textile and clothing).
The motor industry has successfully filled the consequent industrial gap. Several, highly dynamic motor vehicle equipment manufacturers and subcontractors working in metallurgy and mechanics have created several dozens of new jobs. Thanks to the motor industry, metallurgy is solidly established as Lisieux's premium industrial sector.
Electric and electronic equipment comes in in second position with Atos (fine sheet metal, cabinets and cases) and Chauvin – Arnoux (measurement instruments).
The agrifood industry is the Lisieux area's third industrial employer. The industry concentrates on dairy production in an area where cattle breeding is the main agriculture activity. Based on local produce, cider-based production is another Lexovian* speciality.
