Papillons de Nuit festival: an annual event where national and international artists combine their talents over a weekend. The leading summer festival (1 of the 10 most important festivals of its kind in France): 60,000 tickets sold, 35 concerts, 3 venues

After four years of concerts held in the town hall in Saint-Laurent-de-Cuves (Manche), the first edition of Papillons de Nuit was launched in 2001. The success of this inaugural edition (10,000 visitors) was to confirm the great enthusiasm among the region's inhabitants for this type of event, along with the need to federate the local population around a common project. To do so, the association R.O.C. en Baie was founded in order to coordinate the event's organisation. A combination of 4 local associations, it comprises 24 permanent members, actively involved in preparing the festival, all year round.

The principle aim of Papillons de Nuit is to present a rich, diverse and attractive cultural offer. From Yannick Noah to -M-, via Jean Louis Aubert, Calogero, The Servant, Ska-p or Archive, a vast array of French and international artists have accepted to contribute towards the rapid expansion of this major cultural rendezvous, renowned throughout France.

Papillons de Nuit is also a major asset for the region's tourist industry. For although the great majority of its visitors are of regional origin, many others take advantage of the event to visit, to enjoy the region's gastronomy and to stay overnight. The festival alone represents over 900 bed nights throughout the region's tourist accommodation. Furthermore, it has been considered as the département's 3rd leading tourist attraction, closely following the Cité de la Mer and the old rig gathering in Cherbourg.
Thanks to its early date, it is the first major open-air festival of the season, reflecting current and forthcoming trends upstream of other national festivals.

With a total of 60,000 tickets sold in 2009, Papillons de Nuit is now one of France's 10 leading festivals with 35 concerts organised in 2009. In 2007, it progressed from 2 to 3 concert venues.
