University research contributes to the region's national and international influence
The University's Scientific Committee defines the outline policy for research and for the utilisation and development of associated results
50 research teams, 3 pluridisciplinary and federative hubs

RESEARCH
Number of public researchers: 1,055
A few keys to the university's scientific policy:
- The development of pluridisciplinarity in all scientific fields, and also within the MRSH (Caen University Research Centre for
Humanities and Social Sciences)
- The recognition of research units by the Ministry for Research, and of mixed research units by major organisations such as
CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research), INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research), INSERM (French
National Health and Medical Research Institute), CEA (Atomic Energy Commission), IFREMER (French Research Institute for
Exploitation of the Sea): 50 research teams including 25 mixed units acknowledged by major organisations (CNRS, INRA,
INSERM, CEA, IFREMER) and by the ministry, 5 of which are University / ENSICAEN / CNRS units.
- Collaborative research, based on a local site policy, between the University and ENSICAEN (National Superior School of
Engineering), GANIL (National Heavy Ion Accelerator) and the GIP (Public Interest Group) CYCERON (Centre for Cerebral
Imaging and Research in the Neurosciences).
- The development of interregional and international scientific networks: PUN (Normandy University Pole) and interregional
networks, European programmes, post-doctorate training, collaborative thesis tutoring between doctoral schools.
- Research Masters Degrees and PhDs: LMD (Ordinary Degree-Masters Degree-PhD); Doctoral schools (5): « Literature,
Culture, Social Sciences », « Structure, information, matter and materials », « Normandy Chemistry-Biology »,
« Normandy Law », « Normandy Economics and Management »
- A policy to develop and enhance research: an SAIC (Industrial and Commercial Activities Service)
- Scientific publication: PUC (Caen University Press, journals and publications, colloquiums, collections, heritage, scientific
culture)
